Park opens for '09 season

Park News
Wednesday, 1st April 2009 By Dan Ketteringham

Last weekend, Alton Towers opened its doors for the start of the 2009 season.

New this year at Alton Towers are Sharkbait Reef, the pirate-themed aquarium by Sea Life in Mutiny Bay, and the revamped area Cloud Cuckoo Land, formerly Cred Street.

Both of the park's shows have been updated; last year's The Wonders of Algenon's Attic becomes The Wonderful World of Cloud Cuckoo Land, incorporating the same characters into a new story. The Pirates of Mutiny Bay show is now The Pirate of Sharkbait Reef, but uses a different set of characters to last year's show.

The KFC/Pizza Hut outlet in Katanga Canyon is now Explorers Pizza & Pasta Buffet, offering all-you-can-eat at around £6 per head, which is excellent value.

The Sky Ride has also had a facelift, with new gondolas replacing the ones that had been used ever since the ride's installation back in 1987.

We have added 49 new photographs to the galleries in various places, with yet more still to come - check out our Sharkbait Reef and Cloud Cuckoo Land albums, for example. Or perhaps have a gander at the 2009 map. You can see all the latest photos in chronological order if you wish.

Finally, we've also added some new photos to the SW6 construction gallery, including one of this intriguing banner that has appeared next to where Corkscrew used to be:

If you are in a group, try and get a "Photopass" so the cost of on-ride photos is cheaper.
