Superheroes Superdeal

Park News
Thursday, 21st July 2005 By Dan Ketteringham

The Scooby Doo event has started, and with it comes another crazy BOGOF promotion.

Following the Gnome/Nun offers run earlier in the year, Alton Towers are now offering free entry to anybody accompanied by a superhero.

The promotion is running for the duration of the Scooby Doo event (see our Special Events Diary), which is from July 18th to August 31st. If you dress up as a superhero, bring along a guest (not in costume) and pay full price, your guest can get in for free.

The park's press officer, Liz Greenwood, told ATA: "We're looking forward to welcoming a host of super-human guests throughout the summer!

"Ideally we'd like to see plenty of Scooby-Doo's, but bearing in mind the apparent shortage of hound costumes, we'll accept Spidermen, Supermen, Wonder Women…"

ATA welcomes what is yet another quirky idea from the park.

Here are the obligatory terms and conditions:

  • Offer runs from 18 July to 31 August 2005 inclusive. Superhero pays full day adult price of £29 (well, it's the magnanimous thing to do). Only one complimentary 'rescuee' per hero, adult or child. Not valid with any other promotion or discounted ticket (including bounceback or similar).
  • The use of any super-powers is strictly forbidden whilst on Park premises. No fighting, facing up, facing off, taunting, bragging, boasting, challenging or otherwise flexing super powers of any sort. Offenders will be ejected from the Park immediately.
  • Superheroes may not use their skills to enhance or alter any ride or experience, whether for their own or for other's well-being. This includes making rides go supersonic 'just for the hell of it!!'
  • The costume of a Superhero is obviously of great importance. However, no Superhero will be allowed on any ride or attraction if staff members believe that their costume could compromise health and safety. Cloaks must be tied back neatly; false hair pieces must be securely attached and additional body parts must be left in Guest Services upon arrival!
  • Please note, the wearing of underpants over normal trousers does not turn you into a Superhero (no matter what they told you in the pub), neither does wearing a wig or tying a tea towel round your head, so you won't get your mates in free. You've got to make an effort!! We reserve the absolute right to refuse admission.

Some rides are best avoided on a full stomach, like Marauder's Mayhem and The Blade.
