The Smiler opens to the public

Park News
Friday, 31st May 2013 By Dan Ketteringham

After months of delays, Alton Towers' newest rollercoaster has opened.

The Smiler, situated on the old Black Hole site in the X-Sector, is a major investment from the park and is aimed squarely at thrill-seekers.

The flagship ride, which boasts a world record breaking 14 inversions, opened to the public a short while ago and so far appears to be running smoothly.

It has been a troubled start to the coaster's operating life, with numerous delays and setbacks forcing the park to miss the ride's opening date by just over a week. This was after the original proposed date of March had been shifted to May to allow further time for construction and testing.

We will be bringing you photos and videos of the new ride over the weekend. See you there!
