SW6 given the green light

Park News
Thursday, 12th March 2009 By Dan Ketteringham

Alton Towers' latest roller coaster, set to open in 2010, has been approved for construction.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council made the decision during their committee meeting this afternoon, which will see the new coaster be constructed partially on the area previously inhabited by Corkscrew, the park's longest-standing ride.

The manufacturer of the new coaster is still unknown as this stage, with rumours surfacing recently that Vekoma could be involved.

The new ride is said to be codenamed Secret Weapon 6, continuing the previous naming tradition.
