Corkscrew car to be auctioned

Three weeks after Corkscrew ran for the final time, the park are offering you the chance to win a unique present this Christmas.

The front car from one of the roller coaster's two Vekoma trains will be auctioned on popular site eBay, starting tomorrow morning.

The auction will run from 10am on Tuesday 2nd December until 10am on Thursday 11th December, and all of the proceeds from the auction will go Merlin's Magic Wand children's charity, which helps fund holidays and memorable experiences for seriously ill, disabled or disadvantaged children around the world. Delivery to any UK mainland address is included in the package.

Here are some facts about the car in question:

  • 1 careful owner
  • Full service history
  • 2.9 metres in length
  • 1.4 metres wide
  • 1.5 metres tall (all dimensions are approximate)
  • 4 seats and 4 harnesses
Since Corkscrew closed on Sunday 9th November, Alton Towers has received hundreds of requests for parts to be sold off as memorabilia.

Morwenna Angove, sales and marketing director for the resort, said: "We have been astonished by the level of interest in the ride since announcing its departure, and are confident that this exclusive offer will make someone very happy this Christmas."
