2007 Behind The Scenes Tours announced

Park News
Friday, 8th June 2007 By Dan Ketteringham

The details of this year's tours have been announced by Alton Towers.

There will be six tours this year, and the dates they will take place on are:

  • Saturday 7th July
  • Saturday 11th August
  • Saturday 25th August
  • Saturday 8th September
  • Saturday 15th September
  • Sunday 7th October
The price for this year's tours will be £70 per person. Annual Pass holders will get a 15% discount, and only pay £59.50 per person.

Like last year, the day will consist of two "behind the scenes" sessions, one in the morning and one in the evening, with guests able to enjoy the park's rides inbetween. The day will start at 8am and finish at around 8pm. Lunch will be provided, and guests will be given priority passes for a select number of attractions, as well as priority parking tickets.

Guests can expect to see behind the scenes on rides such as Oblivion, Hex, Rita, Air, Nemesis and Duel. Each tour will have a slightly different itinerary depending on the operational implications. Guests will have the opportunity to talk to Alton Towers' technical and rides teams, whilst looking in the rides workshops and behind the scenes. Guests will also be able to see the Flag Tower - an ancient monument within the grounds. An opportunity to talk to management and technical teams, with a selection of archive material to view (i.e. old park maps/photographs) will also be given.

Alton Towers have issued a list of Q&As for those interested in knowing more:

Q: Can we have a tour on a date that is not listed?
A: Unfortunately we can only offer a limited number of tours and have scheduled these tour dates in line with when our teams can facilitate. If there is excess demand for the tours we will look to release more tour dates which will be communicated via e-mail.

Q: We are a group, can we book more than one place - or even all 20 places on one of the dates?
A: Yes, we will facilitate group bookings, there is however no group discount available.

Q: What areas are included on the tours?
A: We will change the nature of the tours depending on weather forecast, operational availability and time restrictions, therefore we cannot guarantee particular areas that may be covered.

Q: I was on a tour last year, can I come back?
A: Yes - but it will follow a similar pattern to last year's tour - so it may not give much more insight!

Q: I have special dietary requirements, will I be catered for at the evening buffet?
A: We will prepare a standard buffet which should cater for most people - if they have any special requirements this can be noted and we will try to cater.

The T&Cs are as follows:
  • All guests must be at least 16 years old to take part in the tours - this is a legal requirement from a Health and Safety point of view.
  • All guests should be warned that parts of the tours are physically challenging - there are instances where you may be required to climb steps or walk for long distances on uneven ground. Therefore guests should be prepared for this, appropriate comfortable footwear (i.e. trainers or walking shoes) is recommended.
  • The day is very long - the morning session will start before 8am and the day will finish at around 8pm, therefore guests are advised to check transport arrangements before booking.
  • Usual Alton Towers Park Regulations apply to Behind The Scenes Tours guests.
