Hotel extension plan goes ahead

Resort News
Tuesday, 21st November 2006 By Dan Ketteringham

The proposed extension to the Alton Towers Hotel, which was sent to the local council in September, has been approved.

The development will see 36 executive suites built adjacent to the existing Hotel.

Both Alton and Farley parish councils were against the idea, largely due to concerns over the trees which will be removed to make way for the extension. Farley council in particular also stated their belief that it would harm local B&B trade.

Many locals believe the park should not invest in any new developments or rides until the long-anticipated access road, aimed at reducing the amount of traffic that pours into the local villages each year, is built.

Alton Towers defended the hotel extension, saying that the development would boost the local economy by £3 million.
