Alton Towers boss Ralph Armond has resigned from his post at the award-winning theme park.

Mr Armond, divisional director of Alton Towers, is leaving the Staffordshire Moorlands park after nine years. Under his leadership, Alton Towers has undergone major changes including the introduction of two hotels and a conference centre.

The Tussauds Group, which owns Alton Towers, said a restructuring of the company resulted in his resignation. As part of the restructuring, which took place at the end of last year, the management of the park was separated from the hotels.

Mr Armond had previously held senior posts at other Tussauds attractions.
